Comme beaucoup d\u2019ing\u00e9nieurs du secteur du ferroviaire, il n\u2019\u00e9tait pas enthousiasm\u00e9 par la construction des transpyr\u00e9n\u00e9ens dont il estimait qu\u2019ils ne rempliraient pas leurs objectifs. Il s\u2019int\u00e9ressa beaucoup \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on dont l\u2019on pouvait g\u00e9rer le probl\u00e8me d\u2019\u00e9cartement avec les voies espagnoles \u00e0 \u00e9cartement ib\u00e9rique.
